Man of the Month; Tarik Benbrahim

In a world of commodities and copycats, a little originality is hard to come by. This month, we get a fresh dose of it.Tarik Benbrahim—bartender, avid crossworder, fixy-rider, and friend to even the strangest of strangers—gave us a little insight into his eclectic lifestyle, and the community that inspires it.

From the twirling rhymes and sultry rhythms of hip-hop, to the wit and philosophical jabber of Tom Robbins, Tarik pulls inspiration from a vast collection of soul and flavor. He calls the daily horoscope his fortune, spends his free time reading, cultivating tunes on his guitar or ventures into the wilderness, living life in the moment.

Questioning his views on style, Tarik states: “Style, by definition, can be two things: it can represent the way in which one does something; while also describing the design or look of another. I think of 'style' as a combination of both of its definitions: the definition of definition. An avenue of expression, where I can represent what I do or who I am, not only to myself, but in relation to the world around me; like a fingerprint.” Embrace a tailored fit & firm belief that you can never be too young or old to look gentlemanly. From good ‘ole jeans to bow ties, from pocket scarves to hypersthenes chains, his clothes flow right along—fitting in to the culture around him, but always to his own tune.

Despite the downtown city lights and the glitz and glam of trendy fashion. Tarik is the kind of gent who can be found infusing his style with details to meet the demand of his adventures.
Whether it's enjoying time with friends on the patio of Golden Hill’s Krakatoa cafĂ©- conquering the daily crossword puzzle, flying without leaving the ground on two wheels, or tending crafted spirits in tall glasses. Tarik nods to the beat, in style.

While I can personally attest to his knack for creating sensationally tasty concoctions, he keeps his solution simple, Fernet, slightly chilled (from the fridge, not a shaker), 2oz., straight down the hatch.

Although this gent attains new tricks of the trade everyday,we challenged him to choose one of his favorite synthesis he calls "The Final Ward."

Execution:
3/4oz Rye (Old Overholt is good stuff, but Bulleit Rye works well too)
3/4oz Green Chartreuse
3/4oz fresh lemon juice
3/4oz maraschino liqueur

Shake well (about 20 good shakes) 'til the tin is frosted, and strain into a cocktail glass & garnish with lemon zest.

Challenge yourself to be unique, travel the world, live in other cities and learn cultures! Explore with a young and stylish mind taking captive of what evolves, The adventure!
